Ever since hitting the scene in 2008 with their eponymous debut, Vampire Weekend has been coming out of left field with their unique spin on indie rock. Perhaps due to their idiosyncratic sound, they’ve seen plenty of commercial success, including numerous song placements in films. Now on their third release, the band has continued to step up their game, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and receiving great rating from critics.

Leading the trailblazing path is the 2:40 whirlwind of a song “Diane Young.” The synthesized low brass and fast paced drums set an incredible tempo for the song and is cut in half during the chorus as Ezra Koenig’s vocals are run through a vocoder and twisted and turned until you feel like you’ve done a 360° spin. Director Primo Kahn, who did the music video for the song, provided one of the most appropriate visual interpretations for the song possible.
