Song of the Week: Jason Isbell’s “Stockholm”

Back in 2007, Jason Isbell decided to leave the very successful rock band the Drive-By Truckers. While the band went on to have a great deal of success, Isbell was on his own trying to recover his life from the alcohol that consumed him during those years. After sobering up, getting married, and putting his life together, Isbell released a gem in Southeastern.

With the song “Stockholm, Isbell takes a page out of Ryan Adams book and cranks out one of the best songs of the year. The lyrics sing of missing his dear love while he’s stuck a “thousand years from my home in this frozen old city of silver and stone” in the town of Stockholm. Between the guitar lick that will be stuck in your head for days and the sweet male/female harmonies, this song is destined to be on your summer playlist.
