God Loves Terrorists – a short debrief on God

Last night, my dear friend Sam came over to hang out with Nicole and me and we had a great time watching Parks and Recreation, drinking apple cider, and talking about life and Christianity. One of my favorite discussions of the night was when we started talking about how Christians have a tendency to place judgement on people who are significantly different from us. The realization we came to last night is that God loves everyone: Republicans, Democrats, tall people, short people, obese people, anorexic people, Americans, Chinese, Christians, Muslims, Jews, heterosexual people, homosexual people, and even terrorists. Isn’t that a breathtaking idea? I mean, sure, that concept is Biblical, but do we ever really think about that? Matthew 5:44-45 says “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” I say all that to say this: we are called to love others. It is not for us to place judgement on people, we are not called to do that. Rather, Jesus tells us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Even if your neighbor is a terrorist. -matthew 3:30pm
